Bookpedia for Book Lovers

Bruji have invented a nifty little Mac OS X application to all book lovers, bibliographic maniacs and information perfectionists that easily manages your english book collection. Bookpedia is not the only application around the digital book shelves, but as far as I know its the only one that gets the job done with no fuss. Check it out here: Bookpedia bruji.com

  1. A few Suggestions to Improvements of Bookpedia

    1) Preferences
Ad the possibility to manage numbers (10, 20, 30, 40, or 50) of search results shown in the sidebar in searching results after the use of the \”Search the Web\”.

    2) Search the Web
I am often looking for more than book within a specific topic or from an author. Its easier for me to just add the book to my collection and then return to the same place in search results instead of being forced to start the search all over again.

    3) Improve the design of the important \”Search the Web\” tool it seems a little pitty. You can take inspiration from Apple\\\’s ingenious search tool Spotlight!

    4) Invent a Gift List along side the Wish List in the Bookpedia Collections viewer.

    5) Integration with Finder through Services
Make it possible to use Bookpedia as the preferred book tool outside the application in the Finder environment and elsewhere: Looking up ISBN numbers, authors and book titles.

Bruji please keep up the good work with the continuos evolvement of Bookpedia.

    Best regards, Thomas

  2. Hi Thomas,

Thanks for the feedback and for including us in your blog! It\\\’s always nice
to hear from happy users. Below are responses to your suggestions (feel free
to post the responses on your blog.)

Ad the possibility to manage numbers (10, 20, 30, 40, or 50) of search results
shown in the sidebar in searching results after the use of the \”Search the
    Web\”.
When you do a search on one of the Amazon sites, unfortunately the number of
results (10) is determined by Amazon. We cannot change that. For the plug-in
sites it depends on the number of results they return per page.
If you are using one of the z39.50 servers to gather information, you can
set the number of search results in the Preferences/Other.

    the search all over again.
Inside the Preferences/General, uncheck the option to \\\’Return to search
window automatically after add\\\’. That way the Add window will stay open and
you can add as many results from the search as you like.

Sorry, I\\\’m not sure I quite follow you here – could you give me some more
details about which parts of the search window you\’d like to see improved?
    Thanks.

Invent a Gift List along side the Wish List in the Bookpedia Collections
    viewer.
You could create a regular collection (File menu > New collection) and then
exclude that collection from the library (File menu > Exclude collection
from library). But thanks for the idea – maybe we\’ll include a Gift List by
    default in the future.

Make it possible to use Bookpedia as the preferred book tool outside the
application in the Finder environment and elsewhere: Looking up ISBN numbers,
    authors and book titles.
You\\\’ll find Bookpedia under \’Pedias\’ in the Services menu. It will start a
search in Bookpedia for whatever you have selected (title, ISBN, keyword),
using the selected search site in your search window.

    Kind regards,

    Nora
